Pakistan Institute of Tourism & Hotel management

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE

The Pakistan Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (PITHM) was established in 1967 as a government training institute to develop professionals for the tourism and hospitality industry. Initially, it operated under the National Tourism Organization, funded by the Government of Pakistan, to train personnel for hotels, restaurants, airlines, shipping lines, and various catering vocations.
In 1972, PITHM gained semi-autonomous status when it was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. This shift allowed the institute greater operational independence while still serving the tourism and hospitality sectors. Following the 18th Constitutional Amendment, administrative control of PITHM was transferred to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, Government of Sindh, where it continues to function as a semi-autonomous body with its own board of governors representing both private and public sectors.
Located in Clifton, Karachi, PITHM is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a highly experienced faculty to maintain international standards in tourism and hospitality education.
