Functions of the Department

The Culture Department is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and regulating the cultural, artistic, linguistic, and tourism heritage of Sindh through comprehensive initiatives, including heritage conservation, vocational training, and language engineering. It collaborates with national and international institutions, oversees affiliated cultural organizations, and implements digital transformations to enhance accessibility and engagement in cultural heritage.

  1. Promotion of Arts, Culture, and Literature: Foster cultural, artistic, and literary activities at national and international levels. Support and organize events that boost cultural and artistic vitality and maintain collaborative relationships with arts councils.
  2. International Cultural Exchange: Facilitate and coordinate cultural exchange programs globally to enhance cross-cultural understanding and showcase Sindh’s cultural heritage.
  3. Support for Cultural Figures: Provide welfare assistance to scholars, artists, artisans, writers, poets, traditional singers (Sughars), and Naat reciters (Mouloodi) to recognize and sustain their contributions.
  4. Content Regulation in Performing Artsa: Promote moral and ethical standards in the performing arts through content regulation, including managing a censor board for culture-focused audio-visual media.
  5. Promotion of Diverse Tourism Sectors: Develop and promote cultural, spiritual, heritage, archaeological, eco, safari, and educational tourism, enhancing the appeal and infrastructure of Sindh’s tourist destinations.
  6. Tourism Services Regulation: Enforce regulations and standards for tourism-related services, such as travel agencies, tour operators, hotels, motels, guest houses, and restaurants, to ensure quality and safety.
  7. Vocational Training in Tourism: Offer vocational training programs in culinary arts, hospitality, and tourism to enhance skills and employment opportunities in these sectors.
  8. Management of Archaeological and Heritage Sites: Administer, manage, and operate archaeological sites, heritage monuments, and buildings, ensuring their conservation and accessibility to the public.
  9. Library Development and E-Library Automation: Establish and develop public libraries, implement e-library systems, and advance digital cataloging to improve accessibility to literary resources.
  10. Conservation and Development of Heritage Sites: Plan, execute, and monitor development and conservation projects for archaeological, cultural, and heritage sites, museums, and monuments, including maintenance and restoration through various funding schemes.
  11. Preservation of Manuscripts and Historical Records: Ensure the conservation and protection of ancient manuscripts and historical records to preserve the cultural and intellectual heritage of Sindh.
  12. Promotion of Cultural Heritage: Identify, study, and promote both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, fostering awareness and preservation.
  13. Archaeological Exploration and Preservation: Conduct archaeological surveys, explorations, and excavations. Preserve artifacts and collaborate with international excavation teams to safeguard archaeological findings.
  14. Museum Artifact Acquisition and Display: Acquire cultural and archaeological artifacts for museums, organize systematic displays, and rotate exhibitions to ensure public access to cultural heritage.
  15. Digital Transformation of Departmental Operations: Digitize departmental operations to improve efficiency, transparency, and public engagement. Leverage advanced digital tools for data management and streamlined administration.
  16. Promotion and Standardization of Native Languages: Develop and promote Sindhi and other native languages in official documents, educational resources, and public communications, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all platforms.
  17. Language Engineering for Native Languages: Advance language engineering initiatives for Sindhi and other native languages by incorporating them into Human Language Technologies, developing digital tools, and promoting global recognition.
  18. Management and Coordination of Cultural Institutions: Oversee and coordinate with various affiliated institutions, including:

  8. Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering (Hyderabad)
